During a press briefing at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters that he does not intend to rush the process of reaching a peaceful resolution with Iran, dismissing any connection to the upcoming midterm congressional elections scheduled for November of this year. “Despite the fact that everyone is talking about the elections, I am not in a hurry. We need to do this right. The elections will sort themselves out,” he said, describing a potential peace agreement with Iran as a “big deal.” According to the president, negotiations with the Islamic Republic involve “a great many people,” including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “At the moment we are talking, we will see what comes of it,” Trump added. The American leader also stated that Iran is extremely serious about concluding a deal. “I think they are much more serious than we have ever seen before, but that does not mean we will succeed,” he noted. Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources, that the U.S. president is frustrated by the protracted conflict with the Islamic Republic. Some of his advisers fear that the war with Iran, which has already led to rising prices, declining approval ratings, and the deaths of more than ten U.S. military personnel, is “consuming the presidential term” of Trump and undermining the already bleak prospects for Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections for the U.S. Congress. The United States and Israel initiated military operations against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding that called for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, on the night of July 8, the United States resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached, specifically regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
